We can’t run our summer conference without the help of our amazing team of volunteers. Find out more about what being on team looks like and whether it might be for you!

Under 5s

As part of the amazing under 5s team, be prepared to have encounters with God and to play, pray and engage with our under 5s, introducing them to the presence of their Daddy God. Our team is as varied as the Gems themselves. We show love and respect for one another and everything we do and say is child-targeted and age-appropriate. Our team is one of support and encouragement and our heart is for both children and team to experience God in a way that is relevant and inclusive in a welcoming, loving environment.

The under 5s team are passionate about the children having fun with each other AND with God. Please be aware that whilst the core programme is between 9 am and 1 pm there may be a requirement to support other ministries in the afternoons or evenings.

What's a typical day like?

Our first session starts on Monday morning. Parents and children arrive from 9am and the programme is between 9:15am- 1pm. We follow strict checking in and out procedures to ensure the children's safety.

5-10s

Joining the 5- 10s team will give you the chance to work with the most energetic, enthused and funniest people the conference has to offer. You’ll get sticky during craft time, learn the actions to loads of crazy new songs, get soaked from the various water fights and see the children meet and encounter God who loves them just the way they are. You’ll have a week you’ll never forget.

What's a typical day like?

In the first morning session we meet together for an intentional Bible time where we unpack a Bible story and learn a memory verse along with some messy games and challenges to get you ready for the day. In the second morning session we split into our age groups and do some games, craft and Bible time where we learn to put our faith into action. In the evening we have our big theme nights where every night is different, with lots of fun activities such as the Big Messy Quiz to talent nights to sports nights, all centered around our Bible story delivered by talented leaders.

Our Place

The Our Place team serves children, young people and adults who have additional needs, and seeks to enable them to feel included and safe in all the groups throughout Sligo. Additional needs are wide-ranging and include anything which may require some extra input or support to enable the person to participate and be fully included in an activity.

These needs may include a learning, sensory or physical disability, autism, early childhood trauma, mental health challenges, illness and other undiagnosed needs. We want to make sure our summer conference is a place that welcomes, enables and recognises the value of everyone in God’s kingdom.

If you have a heart for serving people who have additional needs or feel called to our team, please apply regardless of experience. We will provide lots of training and support and will enjoy equipping you in the area of additional needs ministry.

What's a typical day like?
Team hours are dependent on the role. Our aim is to support those in their preferred environment. Inclusion teams generally work a morning and evening session, but some roles are more out of hours.

Access Team is primarily for those aged 17-30. They are the team of people who make the conference run smoothly. They do everything from helping to direct cars, checking wristbands, helping with a variety of other teams, and being a friendly face at community events. They help set up and tear down the conference equipment. One of the first to start and last to finish.

The role of the access team is to give you the opportunity to see something of what we are about, invest in you and raise up a new generation of leaders.

 FAQs

  • No, New Wine Sligo summer conference could not happen without our incredible team of volunteers. It's an amazing opportunity to serve others and make new friends. This is why we offer all our team a free place and accommodation for the week.

  • You will need to be a Christian with an active, living faith, a heart for children and regular attendance at a church/fellowship.

  • Those who volunteer for New Wine teams do so based on their Christian profession and way of life. As a team volunteer, your conduct on-site is expected to be consistent with New Wine's ethos and understanding of the teaching of the New Testament.

Part of New Wine’s ethos is our adherence to the Evangelical Alliance (EA) basis of faith and in submitting your team application you are acknowledging your acceptance to do the same.

  • In Creche, Kids and Youth teams, you'll befriend, lead and encourage the children, get alongside them in small groups, pray with and for them, minister to them in the power of the Spirit and encourage them to pray for each other. You'll serve as a small group leader, either on your own or paired up with another team member. Some teams also need activity leaders who organise, prepare and supervise drama, games or craft and assist with the practical needs of the team while not being directly responsible for a group of children.

  • This is different for every team, you can see more in the different team sections above.

  • Team places are limited and leaders need to consider each application to ensure that each team has the right balance of experience and ability. If you are not successful in your first choice of team, we will do our best to find you a place in another suitable team.

  • Applications are considered at various points during the year and not on a first-come, first-served basis. once both references have been received along with a clear Access NI (if required) and the team leader has looked at your application and references, and is happy to accept you on to the team, you'll receive further communication from them with instructions about training days and expectations about your team role.

  • Team members must arrive the day before the event begins (full details will be provided by your team leaders). You must let your team leader know as soon as possible if you are unable to arrive on time, as this may affect your team application.

  • Some teams require you to undergo an Access NI check, this includes a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). This is mandatory for our under 18 teams and our place.
